There actually are some notable differences between the two, and Shottenkirk Toyota of Weatherford has your guide to which is which. Moonroof vs. Sunroof: What’s a Sunroof?
So, what’s the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof? The sunroof has “sun” in its name due to the fact that you can open it or close to keep sunlight in or out. A sunroof is the part of a vehicle’s ceiling that’s underneath the glass sliding door. It usually matches the rest of the car’s interior or body color. Usually, you can tilt a sunroof open or take it off completely in order to let some sun in during your drives through Azle.
Moonroof vs. Sunroof: What’s a Moonroof?
The moonroof is above the sunroof and is made of glass so that you can see through it during the day or at night. Like a sunroof, you can usually tilt the moonroof open or slide it all the way. It was more common for older vehicles to have a sunroof underneath the moonroof, but these days, most newer vehicles will have a moonroof over a sunroof. So, that’s the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof. There’s really not much to it!
What About Panoramic Roof Systems?
In many newer vehicles, you’ll probably see the term “panoramic moonroof” or “panoramic sunroof”, but what does that mean? A panoramic roof has more than one panel that’s either in a fixed position or able to be slid open or tilted. This way, passengers in the back can open their panels to let in air or sunlight on those long Mineral Wells drives.
What other kinds of roofs are there? There’s pop-up, spoiler, inbuilt, top-mount, solar, removable, electric, and electronic options. Learn all about the different types of roof options on our new and used vehicles at Shottenkirk Toyota of Weatherford.
